The North Georgia mountains has one of the most desirable environments on Earth for a home or a second home. The air is clear and the water is clean. The quiet is only broken by the sounds of birds and flowing water. Spectacular views are found throughout Gilmer, Fannin, and Union Counties and so is a variety of wildlife. Farm stands sell produce, and the local orchards grow many varieties of apples and peaches. The people are friendly. The weather is moderate as are the prices for homes and land.

Winter 2006/2007
Winter 2006/2007 saw several snowfalls, the biggest being about 6 inches. Winter is a great time to check out the mountains. Everything is visible with the leaves off.
Spring 2007
Spring 2007 came twice this year. Early March followed by a hard freeze that set back the fruit trees but caused the mountain laurel and native azalea to bloom profusely.

It's mushroom season in the mountains
Late summer brings warm days and afternoon showers. The weather is perfect for the annual fungi bloom. Of the nearly 140,000 species of mushrooms in the world, several thousand can be found in the North Georgia mountains. Select the picture below to view more pictures of the annual mushroom bloom.
Hen-of-the-Woods (grifolia frondosus)
This edible and highly prized mushroom is found in hardwood forests from Southern Canada to Louisiana. This specimen weighs nearly 5 pounds!
